Designed for editors and section editors in leadership
roles - you will gain an understanding of all aspects in
developing a quality publication. Instruction includes
advanced design, content, planning and photo
selection. Sessions include staff motivation, leadership,
team-building, how to get the most out of your staff,
meet deadlines and keep your publication on track. A
focus will be placed on theme development throughout
your yearbook.

PHOTOGRAPHY
The photographer plays a vital role in any yearbook
program. Learn how to take great pictures for your
yearbook and what to do after you have captured
the moment. Mastering digital photography requires
understanding how to use the equipment and
technology. You will take your pictures from the field
to Adobe Photoshop and understand how to adjust
and enhance your picture files. Instruction focused on
digital photography and digital imaging. Includes a
discussion of disk and file organization. Participants
will supply their own cameras, remember to bring your
USB cable.
An additional $10 lab fee for supplies and materials.

COVER DESIGN CLINICS
When you are at camp, you’ll want to sign up with
one of our artists from the HJ plants. You’ll be sure to
walk away with a cover of your dreams! The artists
are talented graphic designers that will take your
theme ideas to new levels! You and your staff can sit
down, watch the computer monitor and be amazed as
your cover unfolds before your eyes. Take the artists a
rough sketch or talk them through the process as they
design away.
There are samples of books, materials, foils, inks, fonts
and so much more - you won’t want to leave. Time
slots are limited, so be sure to sign up and meet with
an artist.

INTRO to ADOBE INDESIGN© CS/CS2/CS3

This powerful desktop publishing program opens up
a whole new level of creativity for your yearbook.
Beginning with an introduction to the InDesign©
environment, we will work to complete layouts and
expose you to many of the new tools in this program.
Text wrap, drop shadows, gradients and text-on-a-path
are just a few of the integrated tools in InDesign©.
From navigating with palettes to expanded typography
treatments you will learn how to bring a new look to
your publication. Includes a discussion of disk and file
organization.

A yearbook veteran staffer? Interested in what makes
for good design? How about typography? Learn how
to design like the pros. Utilize your desktop publishing
program to create yearbook pages that use some of
the advanced features of InDesign© and Photoshop©.
Focus on creating design elements that work together
to present visually pleasing layouts. Advanced skills
include creating photo and type effects, color and
transparency usage, tables, clipping paths and file
export commands. Includes a discussion of disk and
file organization. Please bring a CD of pictures with
you.
